Human Rights, at stake Now More than Ever Before

In commemoration of the 75th World Human Rights Day, which is observed every year on December 10th, let us be reminded of the need for collaborative action towards rooting the implementation of international laws relating to human rights, as these laws apply to all mankind regardless of religion, gender, race, or language. These rights should not be limited for any reason, or under any circumstances. Thus, it is our role, to internationally invest in the use of this day as an opportunity to raise awareness and to work towards strengthening these principles. We should call for full abidance with the terms and conditions of all related agreements, as well as international human rights standards.

Her Majesty Queen Rania Al Abdullah’s social media post, published on this occasion, states that although 75 years have passed since the initial introduction of International human Rights as a concept, we still neglect the rights of Palestinian individuals, and we cannot be selective in our humanity. She confirmed through this statement that it is painful to see for over two months the ongoing violation of human rights within the war inflicted on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip. In this war, people are killed with no mercy. This war has seen brutalities unprecedented in modern history including the destruction of homes, health institutions, and complete infrastructures. Sadly, this is all happening before the eyes and ears of the international community, which passively looks by without taking any actions towards ending this unethical aggression, and with no regard to the international laws and standards.

Unfortunately, the international community stands helpless, eluding timidly to international documents and the need to implement their terms. From this standpoint, we ask for the awakening of the international conscience against this absurd war that heartlessly targets civilians, especially children, women, and the elderly.

Till when will we wait for the moral awakening of humanity, and until when will we pause in anticipation for the implementation of human rights laws and their related international documents, all in order for people to receive their rights. Today, these documents are nothing more than ink on paper.

On this day, we ask the international community to be rational and to steer clear of the obvious and unfair bias towards any side based on personal gains or alliances, as such biases come with no considerations for human rights , and they continue to harm the dignity of humanity, and its basic right to freedom.
