Muasher: Two-state solution requires three conditions

Ammon News - Former Deputy Prime Minister Marwan Muasher confirmed that the idea of eliminating the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip has proven to be a failure, because the resistance’s military capacity is still mostly present after 47 days of war.

Muasher said in a phone interview with Radio Noon that after 15,000 martyrs in Gaza, it has been proven that there is no military solution.

Regarding the two-state solution and the continued success of its proposal, Muasher considered that it needs three conditions that are not currently available, which are firstly, the presence of a serious political will from the United States of America, specifying the ultimate goal of ending the occupation, secondly, creating a new Israeli government that desires peace and accepts an end to the occupation and finally holding new Palestinian elections.

Muasher, who is the first Jordanian ambassador to the Israeli occupation, stated that if these conditions are not met, we cannot talk about a two-state solution, indicating that their availability at this stage is not on the table, and therefore the two-state solution is not possible.

The Palestinian elections must be held to produce new leaders, because if we want to end the occupation, any Palestinian authority must obtain renewed legitimacy, something that does not exist today, he said.

Muasher also commented on the truce expected to be implemented, saying that it is required because the people of Gaza are really tired and aid must be brought into the Strip. On the other hand, the occupation government is under great pressure.

He stressed that a temporary truce -is not a goal-, but what is currently required is to reach a permanent end to the war, which is what Israel and the United States do not want.
