Ammon News - Specialist in chest diseases, critical care and sleeping diseases, Dr. Muhammad Hassan Al-Tarawneh, warned against taking antibiotics to treat influenza and colds.
"In light of the season of the spread of respiratory viruses at the beginning of the fall season, especially seasonal influenza viruses, respiratory syncytial virus, and the Corona virus, there is an unfair, excessive, incorrect and pathogenic use of antibiotics," Al-Tarawneh wrote in a Facebook post.
Uncontrolled treatment with antibiotics contributes to the emergence of superbugs, which spread among people, and are resistant to the antibiotics currently used. In the event of a bacterial infection, doctors do not have a medicine in their arsenal, which puts the patient’s life at risk, he explained.
Recent studies confirm that viral infections are diseases that heal on their own in most cases, and only symptoms are treated, such as painkillers, fever reducers, and nasal and throat decongestants, he noted.
