Ammon News - Two charter tourist planes from major Hungarian and Romanian companies landed Wednesday at King Hussein International Airport in Aqaba, with support from the Jordan Tourism Board (JTB).
The arrival of the planes will launch a tourist air bridge during the winter season, attracting 6,748 tourists to Jordan, according to a statement issued by the JTB.
JTB's Director General, Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat said that the JTB’s strategy is to increase the number of tourists to the Kingdom through charter flights during the current year, indicating that the Kingdom has received 149 charter aircraft since the beginning of 2023, carrying a total of 19.3 thousand foreign tourists.
Receiving tourists in Aqaba and departing from there to visit all the tourist and archaeological sites in the Kingdom supports the tourism momentum of the tourist sites, he pointed.
This step came in light of the efforts made by the JTB to attract charter, low-cost, and regular aircraft from several countries directly to King Hussein Airport in Aqaba, he stated, pointing to the fruitful cooperation with the Aqaba Special Economic Zone Authority (ASEZA) and King Hussein International Airport.
The JTB is working to attract more flights directly to Amman and Aqaba, and depart from there to visit tourist and archaeological sites in the Kingdom, he noted.
