Ammon News - The Minister of Government Communication and official spokesperson for the government, Faisal Shboul, inaugurated on Tuesday, the sessions of the first meeting of the Arab technical team tasked with negotiating with international media companies.

Shboul said during the opening session that the task that the members of the Arab team undertake, mandated by the Council of Arab Ministers of Information, which is to set mechanisms and foundations for negotiation with international media companies based on the unified Arab strategy, and the guiding Arab law for dealing with those companies, will be the most important step.

He referred to Jordan's initiative to develop a unified Arab strategy and an Arab guiding law, which was supported by brotherly countries leading to the formation of the Arab negotiating team, pointing out that the past months witnessed a consensus among Arab information ministers on this vision.

Arab countries are lagging behind in organizing their relations with international media companies compared to European countries, he noted, saying that "I say it frankly that we were late - as Arabs - in organizing our relations with international media companies. We were six years behind Europe, for example."

"Over the past years, we have lost many rights as a result of the negative use of social media on the political, social and economic levels, and it is imperative that we today restore some of those rights," according to Shboul.

He stressed that fairness to Arabic content, the Arabic language, and major Arab issues, foremost of which is the Palestinian cause, on the platforms of international media companies are the first priorities of Arab countries.

With regard to the media, Shboul said that the media is a basic right for the public, "and the media with its old and modern means has become one of the victims of social media because of the latter's acquisition of the largest percentage of its share in the advertising market."
