Ammon News - The Amman Municipality council on Tuesday approved a draft agreement with the Jordan Biogas Company for the ongoing operation and maintenance of the Ghabawi landfill biogas project.
The project aims to generate electricity and reduce carbon emissions, providing the municipality with an annual income of approximately JD4 million, as well as the ability to sell carbon credits to interested parties.
The council, in its meeting chaired by Mayor Yousef Al-Shawarbeh, also gave the green light to the procurement, installation, and maintenance of electronic payment equipment, CCTV cameras, and electronic tracking systems for 350 privately-owned public transport buses in Amman. The municipality will bear the cost of the equipment and annual operation from the public transport revenue fund, with the bus owners repaying it over a seven-year period.
Furthermore, it also endorsed regulations for issuing public transport tickets within the Amman municipality's purview and mandating operators to install electronic payment, CCTV, and electronic tracking systems.
Additionally, the council agreed to sign a memorandum of understanding with the Jordan Water Company "Miyahuna" to execute a water-saving technology project within the Hussein Public Parks. The project seeks to increase the efficiency of water usage in the park's facilities.
The council has approved a draft system for monitoring and regulating itinerant vendors, stalls, and umbrellas, within the borders of the Amman Municipality.
During the same session, the council also ratified the inking of a cooperation agreement between the municipality and the Department of Land and Survey on exchanging geographic and registration information.
