Ammon News - Hebrew media revealed that there has been tension between Jordan and the occupying entity in recent days, after the Jordanian security cut the traditional sidelocks of a number of religious Jews at a border crossing.
The Jordanian security took such action because it was safe for them not to appear as Jews while traveling, according to Israel Hayom.
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the occupation said that this action "affected the feelings of the Jews."
Israeli Foreign Minister Eli Cohen sent an official démarche to the Jordanian embassy in Tel Aviv, in which he expressed his shock at the behavior of the Jordanian authorities, calling not to repeat it, saying: "This is not the first time that religious Jews have been asked to take such discriminatory steps."
"About two weeks ago, a group of 150 religious Jews were imprisoned for 48 hours at the border crossing with Jordan, and some Jews were forced to cut their traditional sidelocks at the request of the Jordanian authorities," Cohen added.
"It is just beyond the pale that Israelis would be discriminated against in the border crossing and denied entry just because they are religious Jews," Cohen said. "The peace between Israel and Jordan is important for both countries. We will engage the embassy in Israel and the Jordanian authorities so that we can find a solution for thousands of Israelis who want to visit Jordan but cannot currently do so just because they carry various items. We are taking many diplomatic steps to resolve this issue."
