Ammon News - Jordan's Planning Minister and International Cooperation, Zina Touqan, discussed Monday with members of the Foreign Affairs and Defence Committee of the Italian Senate enhancing bilateral cooperation.
According to a Ministry statement, Toukan said during the meeting that the visit is "important" in developing ties with Italy, praising Jordan's "strategic" partnership with Italy and supporting Jordan's priorities and development efforts.
She discussed the impact of the Memorandum of Understanding between Jordan and Italy 2021-2023 to support the Kingdom's priorities in health, agriculture, education and social protection and supporting refugees and host communities.
She briefed the delegates on Jordan's political, economic and administrative modernisation reforms and the country's priorities within the executive programme of the vision of economic modernisation for 2023-2025 in terms of programmes and projects for the coming period.
Members of the Italian delegation were briefed on the priorities within the axes of the road map to modernise the public sector.
Touqan added that there is a decline in the support directed to the Jordanian response plan to the Syrian refugee crisis, as it has not exceeded, to date, 7.5 per cent of the needs contained in the plan, calling on the international community to "fulfil" its obligations towards countries hosting refugees by funding Jordan's response plan.
The head of the delegation senator, Stefania Craxi, lauded the "strategic" partnership between Jordan and Italy, adding that Italy "will continue to stand by Jordan and support priority development projects and programmes within the vision of economic modernisation."
