Ammon News - Prime Minister Bisher Khasawneh on Thursday welcomed the United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) Secretary-General Zurab Pololikashvili and Arab ministers partaking in the 49th meeting of the UNWTO Regional Commission for the Middle East, which commenced Wednesday in the Dead Sea.

At the meeting attended by Minister of Tourism Makram Qeisi, the Premier emphasized the significance of discussing strategies to strengthen collaboration and unity among Arab nations in the tourism field and to chart a course for the tourism industry in the Middle East.

Khasawneh highlighted the significant tourism and cultural legacy of the Arab countries, which have immense potential to enhance the Arab tourism industry and boost regional economies.

"We have common denominators, destiny, issues, and interests that we can utilize to benefit our economies," he stated, noting a need to continue networking, crystallizing partnerships, and drawing from successful Arab experiences in tourism.

He said the UNWTO's meeting could help outline regional and global tourism sector difficulties and share insights on capitalizing on opportunities to prop up the industry.

Khasawneh expressed his appreciation for the support provided by UNWTO to Jordan in enhancing its tourism offerings, adding that efforts concerted to rejuvenate tourism investments and collaborate with the private sector have resulted in a noticeable increase in tourist footfall.

For his part, Pololikashvili thanked Jordan for hosting the meeting, which has the potential to boost tourism at the regional level.

He said Jordan has great tourism capabilities that can be invested in and developed to serve the Jordanian economy, stressing the importance of investing in the tourism sector, networking with the private sector, and cooperating regionally in this field.

The tourism ministers from Arab nations commended Jordan for its successful hosting of the meeting and the positive outcomes that would fulfill the tourism-related goals of member states.

They also praised Jordan's tourism potential and diversity, which will bolster tourism in the Kingdom and serve the national economy.
