Jordan's total exports up 6pct in Q1 of 2023

Ammon News - Jordan's total exports went up by 6.3 percent in the first quarter of 2023 to a total of JD2.118 billion, compared with JD1.993 billion recorded in the same reporting period of 2022, according to official figures.

Monthly data issued by the Department of Statistics on Sunday showed that the Kingdom's national exports picked up by 8.8 percent reaching JD1.975 billion in the first quarter of 2023, compared with JD1.815 billion recorded in the same reporting period of 2022. Meanwhile, the value of re-exports in the same period dropped by 19.1 percent to a total of JD144 million compared with JD178 million.

As for imports, the figures indicate that they amounted to JD4.514 billion in the first quarter of the current year, rising by 5.6 percent from the JD4.276 billion registered in the same period of last year.

According to these figures, foreign trade deficit rose by 4.9 percent to JD2.395 billion against JD2.283 billion recorded in the same period of last year.

On a monthly level, total exports, which include re-exports, hit JD655.2 million in the March of 2023, signaling a decline of 15.6 percent compared to the same month of last year.

Similarly, national exports dropped by 15.6 percent to reach JD603.3 million in March of the current year, while re-exports went down by 14.8 percent to a total of JD51.9 million.

Imports for the month of March of the current year, amounted to JD1.504 billion, constituting a 0.8-percent decline.

Foreign trade deficit rose by 14.7 percent to JD848.7 million in March 2023 compared to the figure recorded in the same month of last year.
