Ammon News - The Kingdom’s trade balance deficit with Greater Arab Free Trade Area (GAFTA) countries plunged by 18.5 percent in the first two months of 2023, reaching JD396 million, against JD486 million in the same period of 2022, the Department of Statistics (DoS) announced on Thursday.

According to the DoS foreign trade data, value of national exports to the GAFTA countries in January and February of this year surged by 7.8 percent to reach about JD383 million, compared to JD356 million during the same period last year.

Meanwhile, the value of the Kingdom's imports from the GAFTA countries in the first two months of the current year dropped by 7.5% to reach about JD779 million, compared to the correspondent period in 2022, which amounted to about JD842 million.

According to statistical data, volume of Jordan's trade exchange with the GAFTA nations during January and February of 2023 reached JD1.16 billion, compared to about JD1.2 billion in the same period last year.

According to the DoS figures, Saudi Arabia topped the list of Jordan's exports to GAFTA countries in the reporting period with JD127 million in exports, while the United Arab Emirates topped the list of countries from which Jordan imports with about JD172 million in imports.
