Jordanian expatriates' remittances raises demand for dinar

19-04-2023 12:39 PM

Ammon News - Representative of financial and banking sector at the Jordan Chamber of Commerce (JCC), Firas Sultan, said that there is a significant demand for Jordanian dinar with exchange companies, with the approaching of Eid al-Fitr holiday.

The increased demand for the dinar is due to the increase in remittances from Jordanian expatriates working abroad, as well as the tourism activity increase, according to Sultan.

According to Central Bank figures, the Kingdom's tourism income increased during the first quarter of 2023 by 88.4%, compared to the same period last year, by $1.671 billion.

Sultan expected that other currencies would witness demand during the coming period, such as the Egyptian pound and the Turkish lira, due to the expected tourist reservations abroad during Eid al-Fitr holiday.
