Ammon News - Friends of Jordan Festivals, in collaboration with the Petra Authority and Tourism Development and the Jordan Tourism Board, are proud to present “Rose City Nights” - a series of cultural and musical performances throughout the entire year at Petra Cultural Village.

The opening ceremony will feature The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Symphony composed and conducted by Dr. Haitham Sukkarieh, performed by the National Music Conservatory orchestra/ King Hussein Foundation on Thursday 25th of May, 2023, marking the Independence Day of the Kingdom.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Symphony is formed and conducted by Dr. Sukkarieh and the National Music Conservatory Orchestra. The performance tells the story of the Kingdom in five stages since the great Arab revolt to the present through a dramatic orchestral symphony.

Starting with the Great Arab Revolt and the birth of a Hashemite king which depicts the history of King Abdullah. The second is “Ibn Al-Hussein”, and a Jordanian wedding, which depicts the fabric of Jordan in its various moods and colors - northern, southern, rural, Bedouin, Palestinian, Levantine, and Circassian origins. “The Lament of Al-Hussein” is a commemoration of King Hussein bin Talal - may God rest his soul. “The New Dawn” depicts Jordan’s modern history and development in all fields, through the use of Jordanian folk melodies with dramatic narration.

This symphony also embodies Jordan's prosperity in scientific, economic, educational, urban renaissance during the reign of His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein. The concert will be opened with the orchestral song (Petra) picturing the beauty of the rose city.

The Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan Symphony was first presented at the centennial ceremony of the kingdom under royal patronage and the support of Al Hussein Fund for Excellence and Friends of Jordan Festivals.

Dr. Sukkarieh was awarded for his creativity by Al Hussein Fund for excellence.

Organized by Friends of Jordan Festivals, who have conceptualized a year-long calendar for 2023, bringing to Jordan several world class acts, accompanied by prestigious Jordanian and classical musicians, providing an unforgettable experience to an enthralled audience from across the country and region. The intention is to celebrate the sights and sounds of Jordan, packaged as a complete immersive entertainment experience, while branding Jordan as a world class tourist, cultural and economic destination. Through the planning, design and execution of such projects this has also supported local communities and revived economies by creating job opportunities in event locations and their surrounding areas.

Through organizing many world-class events over the years, Friends of Jordan Festivals has achieved attendance of over 150,000 guests among Jordanians and foreign visitors. In addition, these events have been made accessible to more than 25,000 underprivileged children from all parts of the Kingdom, through inclusive and corporate social responsibility programs.

Dr. Sukkarieh’s Biography
Dr. Haitham Sukkarieh Assistant Prof. University of Jordan Faculty of Arts & Design PhD.

Composing & conducting, graduated from the higher institute of music in the academy of arts in Cairo. He obtained his PhD in 1011 honors specializing in composition and conducting. Through the Jordanian syndicate of artists, he established in 1997 the Jordanian national orchestra, under his baton, the orchestra participated in several Jordanian and Arab festivals.

Dr. Sukkarieh has many artistic activities in the Jordanian culture such as theater and TV musical composition, song writing, having won many prizes. He was the first Arab Jordanian to conduct the Cairo symphony orchestra in Cairo Opera House and appeared many times on the stage of Cairo opera house as a performer, composer, and conductor. Dr. Sukkarieh conducted the national Jordanian orchestra with his works in the final party of Jordan festival 2009.

Several songs as composing and arranging for different singers A lot of those compositions were introduced in Jordan and in Egypt through the orchestra and oriental bands and soloist.
