Princess Basma urges continued attention to women empowerment

Ammon News - The Chairperson of the Jordanian National Committee for Women's Affairs, Princess Basma bint Talal, Monday said International Women's Day is an "opportunity to celebrate the sacrifices of women, glorify their achievements and galvanise determination to continue efforts to empower them."

During the Committee's celebrations of International Women's Day, Princess Basma urged attention to women empowerment, promoting their rights and placing them on comprehensive and sustainable development agendas, praising the action plan of the National Strategy for Women in Jordan.

She said the 2023 celebrations of Women's Day is against the backdrop of repercussions of world crises, especially the COVID-19 pandemic, noting that women had to endure more burdens, which pushed many of them out of the labour market.

The celebrations, held in tandem with the launch of the action plan for the National Strategy for Women in Jordan 2023-2025, Princess Basma talked about the the impact of climate change on women in the world and in the region in light of the decline of the agricultural sector due to desertification, water scarcity and the loss of job opportunities.
