11.3% increase in number of tourist sector workers

Ammon News - The amount of workers in various tourism-related activities reached 54,764 thousand last year, an increase of 11.3% from 2021 when it had reached 49,209 thousand.
The workers are dispersed over a range of activities (hotels, travel and tourism offices, etc.), according to data released by the Ministry of Tourism.
The number of employees in the hotel industry, which last year had a workforce of 21,835 thousand, of which 2,364 thousand were female and 19,471 thousand were male, accounted for 40% of all employees. Tourist restaurants came in second with a workforce of 20,770 thousand, or 38% of all employees.
As part of its priority strategy for economic recovery, the government intends to bring 4.5 million tourists to Jordan by 2023; this figure is anticipated to rise to 5.5 million by 2025.
Jordan's tourism revenue for the previous year totaled 4.123 billion dinars, a rise of 110.5% from the revenue earned in 2021, according to data by the Central Bank.
The data showed also that Jordan's tourism revenue in 2022 increased by 0.4% over the pre-pandemic level recorded in 2019.
The value of the increase in income amounted to 2.165 billion dinars, and this came as a result of the increase in the number of tourists coming to Jordan by about 2.6903 million tourists; to reach 5.0489 million tourists.
