Ammon News - Six Jordanian companies participated in the 10th World Olive Oil Exhibition 2023 in Madrid, Spain, with the support of Centre for the Promotion of Imports (CBI) at the Dutch Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
In a statement on Wednesday, National Agricultural Research Center (NCAR) said participation aimed to enhance opportunities for marketing Jordanian olive oil, as Madrid exhibition is one of the largest international fairs.
During the exhibition, NCAR Director General, Nizar Haddad, highlighted the importance of olive oil produced from historical Al-Mahras cultivar and its historical value, as one of the oldest genetic olive genotypes in the Mediterranean basin.
Meanwhile, head of the Jordan Olive Products Exporters Association (JOPEA), Fayyad Zyoud, said the exhibition, which is slated to run for two days, is a global window for marketing the best olive oil varieties, noting that 6 Jordanian companies took part in the fair.
Jordan's first participation in the event aimed at increasing global awareness of the advantages of Jordanian olive oil, displaying high-quality products, promoting Al-Mahras olive on the global map, and attracting global investments for this sector and transferring scientific expertise to Jordan to highlight local experiences, Zyoud said.
On the fair's sidelines, JOPEA Executive Director, Ruba Dughmush, held a session for 30 international tasting experts to taste participating Jordanian olive oil.
NCAR, in cooperation with Mercy Corps and JOPEA , with the support of the Dutch government, is launching an extensive campaign to promote historical Al-Mahras trees to protect, invest and preserve their added value and launch new products.
