Ammon News - The Ministry of Water and Irrigation signed an agreement with a local contracting company to upgrade the Zara Ma'in/Sweimeh water station.
Under the USAID-funded agreement, a 1,000-cubic-meter water reservoir and an alternative water pipeline worth $1.8 million will be built to ensure the sustainability of water supply from the pumping station to other areas, improving the performance and efficiency of water resource use and the infrastructure of the water supply system.
The project is expected to be completed within a period not exceeding 6 months.
The Zara station, which has a capacity of 100,000 cubic meters per day, or 38 million cubic meters per year, of drinking water, is one of the main systems for supplying water supplies to Amman, according to Minister of Water and Irrigation Muhammad Najjar.
He said that in coordination with USAID, the Ministry of Water is replacing the old pumps and adding a new one to each of the major stations to ensure the system's long-term viability.
