Ammon News - The Energy and Minerals Regulatory Commission (EMRC) has so far licensed 2,000 electric vehicle (EV) charging meters, in addition to 41 public and 13 private charging station, according to EMRC Chairman Ziyad Saaida.

His remarks came during the opening ceremony of an EV charging station workshop hosted by the United States Agency for International Development (USAID) and attended by ministries and national institutions on Tuesday.

He said there are several charging station licensing applications pending approval, adding that the EMRC had issued regulations for charging station activities and set tariffs and commissions for operating stations.

Saaida pointed out that the commission required all new gas stations to offer electric vehicle charging service as a requirement for obtaining a license.

He thanked USAID for launching the Jordan Energy Sector Capacity Building Activity (ESCB), carried out by Deloitte, which mainly focuses on the regulatory aspect.

The workshop, which was held as part of the ESCB, focused on drafting legislation for electric vehicle (EV) charging stations and encouraging the private sector to invest in this new economic activity in order to promote sustainable development.
