Ammon News - A Pakistani newspaper said that the Directorate General Intelligence and Investigation in Karachi thwarted last week an attempt to smuggle illegal alcoholic beverages that were destined for the Palestinian embassy in Pakistan.

The Express Tribune newspaper stated that the smuggled consignment was disguised to be essential items for the Palestine Embassy in Pakistan, as the consignment included a total of 10,548 liquor bottles of different brands from different countries, along with 2,160 bottles of beer.

The directorate general lodged a case against as part of the legal procedures to hold those responsible for the shipment accountable.

The Express Tribune added that, a few representatives were called from the Palestine embassy but none of the representatives showed up. They disowned the consignment, instead.

The sources further revealed that as per the investigation so far, the clearing agent, the shipping lines, and the delivery agent were responsible for the smuggling. Further investigation is underway in this connection.

In response, the Palestinian embassy in Pakistan denied its relationship with this shipment, and that the carrier company acknowledged in an official letter that there was an error on the part of its warehouse workers in sending the shipment of the embassy to another country, while the shipment that arrived at the port of Karachi was supposed to reach a country and this categorically denies the relationship of the Embassy of the State of Palestine with this shipment, from near or far.

The Palestinian embassy issued an explanatory statement of what happened on its official Facebook page, in which it said: “Out of respect for the brotherly Islamic Republic of Pakistan, the government, leadership and people, the embassy of the State of Palestine voluntarily gave up its right to have a representative on it when opening the container and assured the concerned Pakistani authorities of its absolute commitment to the Pakistani laws and regulations.”

The embassy called on all media outlets to exercise accuracy and caution when reporting news about the State of Palestine.
