Illiteracy rate in Jordan decreased to 4.9% by end of 2021- Minister

Ammon News - The Minister of Education, Prof. Dr. Azmy Mahafzah, affirmed that work is continuing to improve the quality of life of individuals, improve their level of job performance, increase their productivity, raise their income level, and provide the labor market with trained and qualified technical cadres.

On the occasion of the celebration of the Arab Day for the Eradication of Illiteracy, Mahafzah said that the illiteracy rate in Jordan decreased from 88% in 1952 to 67.6% in 1961 and to 19.5% in 1990 until the general rate of illiteracy until the end of 2021 reached (4.9%) with a rate of (2.5%) among males and (7.4%) among females, according to the Department of Statistics (DoS).

He pointed out that the number of adult education and literacy centers that were opened for the academic year 2021/2022 is 144 centers, with 121 centers for females and 23 centers for males.
