Ammon News - Some 15 underprivileged families in Rusaifa district of the Zarqa governorate on Saturday received the keys of new homes that were handed to them under the Royal Initiative to house impoverished families across the Kingdom.

His Majesty King Abdullah has ordered the homes to be constructed during a previous field visit and meetings with local Zarqa leaders and dignitaries.

The Royal Initiative, which was launched in 2005 and covers all regions of the Kingdom, aims to provide a decent and stable living to the neediest families, especially in poverty pockets, which are chosen according to fairness and transparency criteria of the Ministry of Social Development.

Royal Court Chief Yousef Issawi, head of the follow-up committee for implementing His Majesty's initiatives, handed the benefit certificates to the families in a ceremony attended by Social Development Minister Wafaa Bani Mustafa and Zarqa Governor Hassan Jabour.

The fully furnished and serviced residencies, which consist of two bedrooms, a living room and a kitchen, were built under the supervision of the the Ministry of Public Works and Housing according to highest technical and quality standards.

Sustainable social and economic development with an impact on citizens is a top priority of His Majesty the King, as royal initiatives touch the needs of local communities to bring "a quantum leap" in the lives of target groups in cities, rural and desert areas and refugee camps.

Beneficiary families voiced their deep appreciation of the Royal Initiative, which, they said, reflects His Majesty's keen interest to secure a decent life for groups going through tough social and economic conditions.

Also today, Issawi, in the presence of Amman Governor Yasser Adwan and Director General of the Department of Palestinian Affairs RafiQ Kherfan, inaugurated an investment building of the Talbieh refugee camp's services committee, which houses warehouse, offices, halls and health facilities.

Such buildings are investments to generate income to the service committees in refugee camps across the Kingdom to carry out infrastructure work and improve the quality of service to the residents of the camps.

Issawi told Petra in an interview that His Majesty the King constantly directs towards improving the quality of life of citizens, especially poor families, through implementing development initiatives and projects to help overcome their hardship and meet their basic needs.

The Royal Initiatives, he said, cover many sectors, including service, infrastructure, social care and the establishment of development centers as engines of sustainable development, through partnership with concerned government agencies and civil society institutions.
