Ammon News - Minister of Tourism Nayef Hamidi Al-Fayez participated on Wednesday, in a workshop organized by the World Tourism Organization on the "Center Stage" project with the aim of empowering women, gender equality, equal opportunities for them in the tourism sector, and how to increase opportunities for women's empowerment in the sector.

On the sidelines of the World Travel Market exhibition in London, which was attended by the Director General of the Tourism Promotion Authority, Dr. Abdul Razzaq Arabiyat, the minister spoke about the ministry’s participation in the project, which comes in cooperation with the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), and with a grant from the German International Cooperation Organization “GIZ” and the UN Women.

Al-Fayez indicated that Jordan was one of the first countries in the world to participate with the UNWTO in this year-long project, stressing that the project received great acceptance and a clear demand to participate in it, and achieved the desired goals and desired results.

He stressed that Jordan is one of the pioneering countries in the region that worked to empower women in the tourism sector, activate their role in the sector and develop their professional and functional capabilities.

He said that the Center Stage project contributed to shedding light on the challenges facing women's work in the tourism sector, noting that the project came in conjunction with the preparation of the Jordan National Tourism Strategy launched last year.

The government and the ministry's relentless efforts to overcome the challenges that impede women's economic participation in the tourism sector and various other economic sectors, Al-Fayez stressed.

He pointed out that employees from the ministry and the private sector participated in the training program that comes within the Center Stage project.
