Ammon News - A Cabinet session, headed by Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Khasawneh, on Wednesday approved the administrative regulation bylaw for the Ministry of Government Communications for 2022.

In a statement, Minister of Government Communications, Faisal Shboul, said government's endorsement of the bylaw comes following the issuance of the Royal decree to appoint a minister of government communications within the recent ministerial reshuffle.

Shboul, who is also the government's official spokesperson, said this step requires establishment of a Ministry of Government Communications with specific tasks, powers and organizational structure, according to a bylaw based on Article (120) of Jordan's Constitution, and as part of the Executive Program of Public Sector Modernization Roadmap.

The new ministry, under the regulation, will undertake the tasks of developing a policy for media and government communications, based on the principles aimed to adhere to articles of Jordan's Constitution, as a guarantor of freedom of opinion expression,he said.

This process aims to enhance the Kingdom's democratic path and political pluralism and strengthens role of the national media in defending the state's supreme interests and safeguarding its Islamic values, he pointed out.

The system, he noted, also safeguards media plurality and diversity, enhances its role in countering rumors, hate speech and infringement on sanctity of private life, promote the public’s right to professional and objective media, raise citizens’ awareness of their rights and duties, and enhances principles of justice and rule of law.

The Ministry of Government Communication - according to Shboul- will provide basic information related to the government and state institutions to the various media outlets, strengthen joint cooperation relations, develop plans and programs necessary to implement, oversee and follow up media policy, and outline press materials related to government activities and national events, in cooperation with public media institutions.

One of the new ministry's key tasks is to provide technical support to media spokespeople in various ministries and government departments, build their capabilities and raise their level of performance to ensure the smooth flow of information to the media, he said.

In addition, he announced future plans to train approximately 70 media spokespersons for all official departments and public institutions as of the beginning of next year.
