25-10-2022 10:46 AM

Ammon News - Under the patronage of HRH Crown Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Arab small and medium enterprises (SMEs) summit opens on Sunday with the participation of Arab ministers working in the business sector and project development.

The summit, the first of its kind, is organized by the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Western Asia (ESCWA) in cooperation with the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO) and brings together various official and private entities in various Arab countries to help Arab SMEs access regional and international markets.

It also aims to mobilize diverse financial resources, benefit from regional and international networks and increase their ability to scale up after facing challenges in the past years, according to a JEDCO statement.

The summit, which is expected to draw a number of directors of international and regional institutions in the Middle East, serves as a platform for local and international decision-makers from the public and private sectors to draw up comprehensive policies and strategies required to boost Arab SMEs.

The summit's key themes focus on opportunities beyond borders, including subjects that will be tackled over three days, including market access opportunities, global value chains, financial opportunities, green growth, digitalization and innovation.

ESCWA has sent invitations to about 600 participants from various Arab countries and international institutions, including entrepreneurs, investors, business influencers, political leaders, economists, journalists, intergovernmental organizations, non-governmental organizations and donors to discuss regional and international opportunities for Arab SMEs through 20 main sessions and 10 workshops.
