AREC develops strategy to reach 30% of energy efficiency by 2035

Ammon News - The Arab Renewable Energy Commission (AREC) has drawn up a practical strategy for 2035 based on the energy mix to reach 30 percent of energy efficiency, 20 percent of renewable energy and smart cities, and 40 percent of electric vehicles, AREC Secretary-General Mohammed Al-Taani said on Monday.

Speaking to the Jordan News Agency (Petra), Al-Taani expected that the volume of Arab investments in renewable energy would reach one trillion dollars by 2040, noting that Arab governments are serious about contributing to the energy transition, sustainable development, and emission reduction, to reach the global target of net zero carbon emissions in the world by 2050.

Investing in Arab nations is required to find productive projects that achieve sustainable food, water, energy, and environmental security to reach self-sufficiency in these countries, he stressed.

The infrastructure and electrical connection between Arab countries are the utmost challenges facing the energy transition and sustainable development in the Arab world, he indicated, emphasizing the significance of achieving Arab economic integration to serve Arab societies and governments.

Talking about the 7th International Investment Forum for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency, which will be hosted by Amman at the end of this month with Arab and international participation, he noted that the event will tackle many vital topics in various fields of renewable energy, energy efficiency, smart cities, smart grids, green hydrogen and sustainability, as well as innovative agricultural patterns, energy management and automobiles.

The 3-day event will bring together representatives from Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, Egypt, Sudan, Libya, Palestine, Syria, Mauritania, Morocco, America, Switzerland, Germany, Czech Republic, Netherlands, Romania, Italy, Greece, Turkey, Yemen, Britain, and Chad.
