Ammon News - Archaeologists have found an ancient ship sunken from the late 19th century on the banks of the Mississippi River. And the shipwreck appeared with the low water levels in the river, which threatens to reach record low levels in some areas.

Scientists spotted the ship, which is believed to be a ferry, and a Baton Rouge local reported the ship's presence as it was walking along the shore earlier this month.

"Eventually, the river will come back and the ship will go underwater," said Chip McGimsey, an archaeologist in Louisiana.

McGimsey added that the ship was likely ferrying people and horse-drawn carriages from one side of the river to the other, before major bridges spanned the mighty Mississippi.

It is reported that the ship sank in 1915 during a severe storm, and small parts of it were discovered in the 1990s.
