Ammon News - AMMAN His Royal Highness Prince Ali Ibn Al Hussein, the Regent, welcomed Her Royal Highness Princess Haya Bint Al Hussein, UN Peace Ambassador and Chairperson of the International Humanitarian City IHC, upon her return to Amman today from earthquake-stricken Haiti.
Princess Haya, who oversaw the humanitarian airlift to Haiti, arrived on board a United Arab Emirates UAE plane that ferried emergency aid to victims of the earthquake organised by the IHC and the Humanitarian Aid Centre in Dubai.
Also on board the aircraft were Jordanian, Palestinian and Syrian families residing in the Caribbean island.
Princess Haya, wife of Sheikh Mohammed Bin Rashid Al Maktoum, UAE Vice-President and Prime Minister, called on the Jordanian Peacekeeping Force in Haiti that provided care to the families.
She also met Haitian and U.N officials to raise awareness and call for speedy international aid to the quake victims, many of whom now struggling to survive after they lost their homes.
"The sad reality is that Haiti has been neglected for a long time, and the earthquake came as a wake-up call to the international community.
We have to quickly get food, medicine and water there today without delay, and we have also to stay committed to assistance even with the rebuilding process in Haiti," Princess Haya said.
Jordan has sent a military field hospital to the island, where a full medical crew working with the Jordanian peacekeeping contingent is offering round-the-clock service to the peacekeepers and people injured in the quake.
