The total number of Petra visitors amounted to 75,330 visitors of all nationalities, as the number of foreigners reached 66,061, and the number of Jordanian and Arab visitors reached 9,269, according to the statistics.

The percentage of visitors witnessed similarities for the current year compared to 2019, which witnessed the highest number of visitors in the history of Petra tourism, in which the number of visitors in the month of September reached about 93 thousand visitors of all nationalities, including 83,223 foreign visitors.

Chairman of the Board of Commissioners of the Petra Region Tourism Development Authority, Dr. Suleiman Farajat, said that Petra witnessed an active tourist movement last September, especially with the beginning of the tourist season, to be the highest month in the number of visitors since 2019.

Farajat added that expectations indicate a continued increase in the number of visitors in the coming days in light of the continuation of the tourist season, expecting that the current October will record higher numbers than last September, which will contribute to compensating some of the losses in the tourism sector that it suffered due to the repercussions of COVID-19.

The authority is working to organize the tourism process at the archaeological site in Petra in partnership with the relevant authorities and local communities, and to limit the violations at the site, Farajat confirmed.

Petra hotels are witnessing high occupancy rates with the increase in the number of visitors during the past days, and the area is witnessing an active commercial movement, and the site is expected to witness further improvement during the coming period.
