Ammon News - Al Hussein Camps for Work and Construction 2022, an annual event aimed at instilling the values of volunteerism in young people, empowering them, and arming them with various life skills, took off on Tuesday.
Since its inception in 1960s by the late His Majesty King Hussein, this annual one-month training and capacity-building program has worked to promote a sense of national pride and belonging to the homeland, as well as inspire creativity and innovation in the next generation.
"The Al Hussein Camps, named after His Majesty King Al Hussein bin Talal, may his soul rest in peace, are a historical landmark in every Jordanian's conscience. Over the years, the camps have helped to spread the message of belonging and loyalty to future generations", Youth Minister Mohammad Al-Nabulsi said during a ceremony marking the start of this year's program.
The minister, who deputized for HRH Prince Al Hussein bin Abdullah II, the Crown Prince, added that the Al Hussein Camps, which is celebrating its 54th anniversary this year, have been preparing young people to face challenges with consciousness.
After a two-year hiatus from direct delivery due to the pandemic, this year's camps are being conducted face-to-face, with 15,412 young men and women participating in 570 camps across all governorates of the Kingdom.
The camps offer a variety of programs, including camps for peace and community security, robotics and artificial intelligence training, social innovation, electronic game design, volunteering and healthy lifestyles, machines and digital manufacturing, and youth job training among others.
