Ammon News - Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply, Yousef Shamali discussed with Egypt's Supply Minister Ali Moselhi in Cairo, mechanisms for enhancing bilateral cooperation in the food security field, in a way that serves common interests and addresses challenges at various levels.

The duo agreed to take "practical" steps in this field by reviving memorandum of understanding (MoU) related to cooperation in establishing, operating and developing logistics areas in Jordan and Egypt, which was signed on the sidelines of the 30th session of the Joint Jordanian-Egyptian Higher Committee held in Cairo during last February.

According to a ministry statement on Sunday, the two sides also agreed to prepare a joint action plan for cooperation in the food security field, activate and implement the MoU within a month, in partnership with the two countries' private sector.

In addition, the two ministers stressed the importance of focusing on activities that contribute to enhancing food security, and achieving Jordan-Egypt integration in this "strategic and important" field.

Shamali said Jordan attaches "great" attention to the food security file in light of the related challenges globally, especially the Covid-19 pandemic-induced repercussions, Russian-Ukrainian crisis, high prices, and disruption of global supply chains.

Trade ministry, under Prime Minister Dr. Bishr Khasawneh's directives, is working within a holistic perspective in terms of food security based on partnership with Egypt and many Arab countries, he pointed out.

At the Arab level, he noted food security is an integrated axis targeted by the industrial partnership that brings together Jordan, the UAE and Egypt, as well as Jordan's Economic Modernization Vision for the next ten years.
