If you are looking to get an idea about this small country's grand history, the Museum of Jordan is one of the best places you can go to in the capital. The fascinating city of Amman has an abundance of attractions and places to visit which link tourists to local culture and make them excited about what Jordan has to offer. In general, Amman is something to be enjoyed, even while walking around at night and getting a few bites from street food.
If you are not a shopaholic, Amman will ignite your desire to go shopping, in fact, strolling around in the neighborhood holding a cup of coffee looking at the beauty of the city is actually enough cause that the city has a lot to look at. One of the best places to visit in Amman is the Roman amphitheater, near Souq al-Sukkar and ten minutes away from Souq Bukharaya markets, which are both famous markets. The Roman amphitheater is one of the best places to visit, as it is the most spectacular remnants of the Roman Empire.
This amphitheater was built around 138CE-161CE during the reign of Antonius Pius, and is a popular attraction site in any trip to Amman besides the citadel. Visiting both the Roman amphitheatre and Amman Citadel means that you visited two of the most iconic sites that the city is proud of. Being a truly an archaeological artifact, the citadel is a home to Jordan's Archaeological Museum, which is a site full of ancient assemblages. From the citadel itself as well as from other historic places around Jordan, it is considered to be one of the oldest places you should see in Amman, you can go and check out the museum to find out everything you need to know about the city's history.
On the grounds of Amman citadel, you will also find the Umayyad palace and the Byzantine Church, which are worth visiting as well. Moreover, the Center for Wild Jordan is worth paying a visit as it has a breathtaking and overlooking site into Amman's Old City, and a large Jordanian flag to the Roman architecture and sweeping hills surrounding it, busy streets, nutritious, delicious food, to lively markets and mosques, and much more. Amman is absolutely worth visiting, you should consider stopping in for more than a couple of days before heading off to Petra.
