Being a truly an archaeological artifact, the citadel is a home to Jordan's Archaeological Museum, which is a site full of ancient assemblages. From the citadel itself as well as from other historic places around Jordan, it is considered to be one of the oldest places you should see in Amman, you can go and check out the museum to find out everything you need to know about the city's history.


On the grounds of Amman citadel, you will also find the Umayyad palace and the Byzantine Church, which are worth visiting as well. Moreover, the Center for Wild Jordan is worth paying a visit as it has a breathtaking and overlooking site into Amman's Old City, and a large Jordanian flag to the Roman architecture and sweeping hills surrounding it, busy streets, nutritious, delicious food, to lively markets and mosques, and much more. Amman is absolutely worth visiting, you should consider stopping in for more than a couple of days before heading off to Petra.
