Ammon News - HRH Princess Basma Bint Ali, chairperson of the National Biodiversity Committee (NBC) and founder of the Royal Botanical Garden, on Monday attended a ceremony held by the Ministry of Environment on the occasion of the International Day for Biological Diversity 2022 and the Kingdom's celebrations of the 76th Independence Day.
During the event at the Dibeen Forest Reserve, Princess Basma highlighted the importance of implementing biodiversity-related projects through the development of a national biodiversity strategy and modernisation of the Environmental Protection Act, notably the inclusion of articles related to biodiversity.
The princess also stressed the need to follow up on the biodiversity clearing-house mechanism (CHM), most recent of which was the "Building national capacity and the legislative framework for access to genetic resources and sharing of their benefits" project, in cooperation with the Ministry of Environment and UNDP, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
On the sidelines of the ceremony, the princess and Environment Minister Muawieh Radaideh participated in a ceremony to plant forest trees and checked on a training course for the reserve's staff in the field of environment protection, held by the Royal Department for Environment Protection and Tourism in cooperation with the British side.
