Ammon News - The General Association for Foodstuffs Merchants on Sunday called for an investigation into the alleged shortage of poultry in the local market and the increase in its prices during Ramadan until today, the Jordan News Agency, Petra, reported.
The association demanded to hold any negligent party accountable within the laws, regulations and instructions in force.
The association stated that some of the news circulated included false information and accusations, stressing that no entity or person is allowed to tamper with the food security and exploit consumers’ needs during specific seasons, whether this tampering is in the form of raising prices, non-compliance with laws and instructions, or issuing misleading statements and information.
Stressing its support for local produce, the association expressed keenness to ensure the sustainability of work at slaughterhouses as well as small- and medium-sized farms.
The association also voiced its support to overcome the obstacles to the import of frozen poultry, calling for tax exemptions to ensure a safe stock of poultry.
