Ammon News - The 2001 free trade agreement between Jordan and the United States has been one of the most successful agreements, raising exports from $50 million to more than $2 billion by 2021, said Youssef Shamali, Minister of Industry, Trade and Supply.

During an iftar organized by the American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Jordan Wednesday evening, Shamali described the decades old relations between Jordan and the US as a "real partnership," noting that the first bilateral cooperation agreement was signed in 1957, followed by the free trade agreement in 2001.

The trade in services is an important part of trade exchange that should be boosted, he added, stressing that Jordan has managed to enhance its trade and economic ties with trade partners, leading to a growth in the national economy, introduction to markets that have more than one billion consumers and attraction of investors.

For his part, the President of AmCham Samer Judeh said that the world in general, and Jordan in particular, is going through a series of challenges that can be overcome through joint action and clear plans to develop the national economy and guarantee a prosperous and dignified life for citizens.

Providing an enabling business environment will drive economic growth, create new job opportunities and stimulate the wheel of economy through a partnership between the public and private sectors and support by the development partners in the US, Judeh underlined.
