Ammon News - The Ministry of Local Administration, in cooperation with the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ), organized a workshop to discuss mechanisms for developing the management of a tender contract for sorting recyclable materials in landfills.
The workshop comes within the activities of the project: "Integrating the Informal Sector and Raising Awareness in the Solid Waste Management Sector", funded by the European Union, to rehabilitate the environmental programs supporting the solid waste management sector and to strengthen partnerships with the informal sector for solid waste management.
It stressed the importance of consolidating the concept of solid waste management in Jordan by networking with parties capable of successfully settling the environmental concept and organizing the work of sectors in the solid waste management system, individuals or institutions.
A group of joint service councils participated in the workshop to highlight their environmental and health role and to emphasize the role of the councils by supervising the implementation of contracts with landfill contractors by following a sound and legal mechanism within good contractual controls that serve the councils’ management and objectives and provide a safe and sound environment for Jordanian workers in landfills.
These actions come in implementation of the strategic direction of the Jordanian government, which was launched through the national strategy for solid waste management in 2015.
The Ministry of Local Administration undertakes waste management, supervision and control in municipalities and councils regarding collection, transportation, sorting, recycling and treatment to invest in waste management and proceed at a steady and organized pace to make Jordan an example of a healthy environmental culture within the best practices.
