Ammon News - Jordanian Businessmen Association (JBA) President Hamdi Tabbaa on Monday called for addressing barriers hindering two-way trade between Jordan and Romania.
During the opening of the Jordanian-Romanian Economic Forum (JREF), which is organized by the JBA, the Romanian embassy in Amman, and the Romanian-Jordanian Economic Cooperation Association, Tabbaa said one of the key hindrances is registration of Jordanian exports to Romania that are different from those accredited for European Union countries.
He stressed cooperation to prop up bilateral relations, namely in the commercial and investment fields, with a focus on Jordanian fertilizers exported to Romania to reach a fair trade balance.
Tabbaa stressed the need to discuss prospects of launching investment projects in targeted economic sectors, especially food, agriculture, transportation, communication, IT and tourism.
"We need to acquaint the Romanian private sector with investment opportunities in Jordan, as well as the incentives and privileges offered by development and free zones, and exemptions granted by the investment law," said the JBA president.
For his part, President of the Romanian-Jordanian Economic Cooperation Association, Radu Bogdan Bano, said the 40-year-old association seeks to boost trade between the two countries, establish strong relations between the two business communities, and expedite commercial procedures.
The two nations' trade volume in 2021 reached around $609 million, compared to $376 million in 2020.
