HCD issues statement over detention of individual with disability

Ammon News - The Higher Council for the Affairs of Persons with Disabilities (HCD) on Saturday issued a statement over the detention of an individual with a severe physical disability.

The young man, who was detained by Marka’s administrator on Thursday, has cerebral palsy and disability of 85 per cent that required him to wear a diaper, according to the reports of Zarqa Health Directorate.

The HCD, after receiving the reports about the detention, contacted Marka’s administrator who showed cooperation and readiness to ensure the safety of the family and neighbours of the disabled individual, as well as maintain his right to treatment to reduce his violent behaviour.

The statement, cited by the Jordan News Agency, Petra, said that the young man, who is currently at Marka prison, will receive care that meets his needs, pending his transfer to the National Centre for Mental Health.
