Agriculture Minister, Khaled Huneifat, met Monday with UAE Minister of Climate Change and Environment, Mariam bint Mohammed Almheiri, on ways to increase Jordanian agricultural exports to the UAE, leverage the health box and identify key challenges that reduce Jordanian agricultural exports.
Huneifat lauded Jordanian-Emirati relations, stressing the importance of trade exchange and benefiting from experiences in both countries, a ministry statement said.
He expressed appreciation fro the UAE's support for the agricultural sector, especially the dates sector, by signing the 2022 Jordan International Date Palm Festival Agreement between the Khalifa International Award for Date Palm and Agricultural Innovation, the Ministry of Agriculture and the Jordan Dates Association.
He pointed out that the festival, through its previous editions, has greatly helped to promote the Jordanian date palm product and introduce it to the world, noting that Jordan's winning of several awards indicates the importance of the date sector and the government and its employees' keenness to compete and reach the highest levels of quality.
Huneifat added that Jordan is looking forward to expanding in this sector and raising its contribution rate, which currently amounts to 15 per cent of the world’s consumption of dates palm, by increasing the planted areas with this important economic crop.
He underlined that the Emirati efforts help to expand this agriculture, which has become a great economic value in the Jordanian agricultural sector.
