Jordan's imports from Russia, Ukraine only 4pct of total inbound merchandise: Syndicate

Ammon News - Jordan's sea freight imports from Russia and Ukraine do not account for more than 4 percent of the Kingdom's total imports, according to Secretary General of the Jordan Navigation Syndicate (JNS) Mohammad Dalabeeh.

In a statement, Dalabeeh said a recent hike in the prices of some commodities in the local market was not a result of halted imports from either Ukraine or Russia but resulted from higher prices in global markets.

Dalabeeh noted that in 2021 the Aqaba port handled 5,133 containers arriving from Russia and 2,251 containers from Ukraine. In turn, the Kingdom sent 404 and 136 containers of goods to both Russia and Ukraine, respectively.

In his tonnage breakdown of the figures, Dalabeeh said the Aqaba port received 449,000 tons of Russia-exported merchandise and 401,000 tons of goods from Ukraine. He did not specify the type of merchandize the Kingdom usually imports from both countries.
