Ammon News - Claudia Baccarini, Italy's oldest living person and the third-oldest in Europe, passed away in Faenza, Emilia-Romagna, on December 24, 2024, at the age of 114 years and 72 days.
Born in Faenza on October 13, 1910, Claudia married Pietro Baldi, who served as Faenza's mayor from 1951 to 1956. The couple raised 10 children together.
On September 11, 2020, she became Emilia-Romagna's oldest living resident at the age of 109, following the death of 110-year-old Anselma Artusi. Remarkably healthy at 111, Claudia maintained her mental sharpness, regularly attended afternoon mass, and adhered to a simple diet that included moderate wine consumption. Although she experienced some vision challenges, she never smoked.
On November 17, 2023, after the passing of Domenica Ercolani at 113, Claudia assumed the title of Italy's oldest living person.
With Claudia's passing, Lucia Laura Sangenito, born November 22, 1910, in Sturno, Campania, now holds the distinction of being the oldest living person in Italy at the age of 114.
