Ammon News - The Senate's Joint Labor, Social Development, Tourism and Heritage Committee, headed by Issa Haider Murad, discussed on Thursday, with a delegation from the World Bank currently visiting the Kingdom, the training opportunities and skills development.
Speaking at the meeting, Murad valued the "extended" partnership with the World Bank Group, which contributes to increasing national economy's resilience and its ability to recover.
Jordan is counting on the World Bank's support to strengthen Jordan's social protection network, increase job opportunities and support a number of sectoral priorities, such as training, skills development and women's participation, according to Murad.
Murad also stressed the importance of enhancing cooperation to stimulate Jordan's investment and business environment by supporting major economic and partnership projects between the public and private sectors and providing the required job opportunities.
Meanwhile, the Senate's Tourism Committee head, Nedal Qattamin, said Jordan's tourism sector was particularly affected by the Covid-119 pandemic-induced repercussions, seen in the drop of the number of incoming tourists.
In some periods, tourism was completely interrupted as a result of the disruption of air traffic and closure of crossings and borders, which led to the shutdown of many tourist facilities, Qattamin pointed out.
National tourism revenues also plummeted despite the government’s decisions to provide support, by the Central Bank of Jordan (CBJ) and Social Security Corporation (SSC) programs to mitigate the crisis's direct negative impact on the national economy, according to Qattamin.
