House Speaker talks ties with Japanese, Greek, Iranian envoys

Ammon News - Speaker of the Lower House of Parliament Abdul Karim Dughmi on Thursday met with the Japanese, Greek and Iranian ambassadors to discuss relations and regional issues.

In his meeting with Japan's envoy Shimazaki Kaoru, Dughmi stressed bilateral relations established by His Majesty King Abdullah II and Emperor Naruhito of Japan, according to a Lower House statement.

He noted Jordan's appreciation of Japan's support in various fields and its stance towards Arab issues, top of which is the Palestinian cause, as well as its support for the two-state solution and the Hashemite Custodianship over Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem.

For his part, the Japanese ambassador underscored that both sides see eye-to-eye on many issues, underlining Jordan's international role in rejecting wars and calling for peaceful solutions.

In his meeting with Greek ambassador Eleftheria Galathianaki, Dughmi pointed out the recently-held summit between King Abdullah and the Greek and Cypriot Presidents, as well as ties connecting Jordan with Greece in several areas.

The envoy, for her part, highlighted her country's aspiration to cement the 55-year-old ties with Jordan, describing them as "historical relations". She also noted that Greece will work on increasing the number of Greek scholarships for Jordanians in religious, medical and other majors.

In his meeting with Iranian ambassador Ali-Asghar Nasseri, the speaker stressed Jordan's commitment to maintaining friendly ties in the region to serve the interests of their peoples.

For his part, the ambassador pointed out his country's interest in boosting the Jordanian-Iranian ties, namely the parliamentary ones.
