Al Aqsa Mosque to receive new carpets donated by King

Ammon News - Under royal directives, work began to renew the carpets in the Dome of the Rock and the Al-Qibly Mosque at the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound at the expense of His Majesty King Abdullah II, custodian of the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, Chief of the Royal Court Yousef Issawi said.

Issawi, who heads the committee to follow up on the implementation of the King's initiatives, also announced a royal initiative to furnish 76 mosques across the Kingdom as part of His Majesty's keenness on the renovation, maintenance and upkeep of places of worship.

The Royal Court Chief spoke during a ceremony to hand over financial support to beneficiaries of a royal donation to imams and preachers who are about to get married, which was held at the King Hussein Bin Talal Mosque to mark the Holy occasion of Al-Isra' wal-Mi'raj.

Among the Hashemite maintenance work at Al-Aqsa Mosque during King Abdullah's reign was the renovation of Salahaddin Pulpit and the southern and eastern walls of Al-Aqsa Mosque, decorative artwork at the Dome of the Rock, maintenance of the Marwani (Musalla) Mosque and underground facilities and installation of a fire alarm system.

His Majesty has also made a donation for the restoration of the Tomb of Jesus inside the Church of Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem.
