Ammon News - Royal Committee for Jerusalem Affairs Secretary-General Abdullah Kanaan Saturday called on Arab and Muslim media and stakeholders to keep Jerusalem and Palestine alive as the foremost issue, and remind the world of the injustice its people are suffering.
"The Arab and Muslim nations are unanimous that the Palestinian cause and its gem Al-Quds (Jerusalem) is the living conscience that unites them, as it is the cause of every Arab, Muslim and free individual, given the absolute belief that the Arab right in Palestine is historical, religious and legitimate and cannot be compromised," he said in a statement marking Al-Quds Global Week.
All free people of the world who appeal to reason, logic, law and international legitimacy share the position of the Arab and Muslim worlds toward Jerusalem and Palestine, noted Kanaan.
Based on Jerusalem's centrality and its religious, historical and humanitarian symbolism, and the need to keep it alive and robust in the behaviors and activities of peoples, the elite scholars of international Islamic institutions and organisations, led by the International Union of Muslim Scholars, have agreed to launch the Al Quds Global Week initiative in the last week of the month of Rajab (according to the lunar calendar), Feb 25 to March 4, which is now in its second year.
The occasion features speeches and marches against Israel's occupation, seminars, awareness lectures and other activities aimed at unifying efforts in support of the Palestinian cause and galvanizing the Muslim nation’s institutions to devote their potentials to promote the Palestinian issue, Kanaan said.
Jordan, the historical custodian over the Islamic and Christian holy sites in Jerusalem, will exert all efforts to support the Palestinian people and their economic and cultural institutions, and safeguard the existing status quo and the Arab identity of Jerusalem, he said.
