Agriculture Ministry: Produce prices drop after snowstorm

Ammon News - The Ministry of Agriculture said Tuesday that fruit and vegetable prices have dropped after soaring during the recent snowstorm that swept across the country and damaged crops in the past two weeks.
In a press release, the ministry denied that the price hike was due to foreign exports, explaining that farm production was hit hard by the freezing weather that sharply reduced quantities coming to the Central Vegetable and Fruit Market.
It said the local market received 3,154 tons of produce on Tuesday, compared to a daily average of 2,300 tones in the past two weeks, and ascribed the increase to rising temperatures.
The increase in supply prompted a gradual drop in prices, the ministry said, pledging to deal with "any unjustified price raises" in coordination with the Ministry of Industry, Trade and Supply.
