Health Minister: We seek to partner with major healthcare institutions to combat cancer

Ammon News - Health Minister Firas Hawari said Saturday that his ministry seeks to partner with the world's top world cancer treatment institutions to provide curative and preventive medical service and achieve a distinguished level in government hospitals as part of its master plan.

He was addressing a discussion session to mark World Cancer Day, which was organised by Hemetna Association under the title "National Efforts in Facing Cancer: Unity, Safety and Justice", with the participation of the King Hussein Cancer Centre, Royal Medical Services, Jordan University Hospital and King Abdullah University Hospital, with support from Zain Company.

Hawari said that the best way to deal with and defeat cancer is through a concerted effort among stakeholders, given rising pathological risk factors, noting that cancer is the second leading cause of death.

The minister pointed out that the Samih Darwazah Oncology Centre at Al-Bashir Hospital played a great role in the treatment of cancer patients through the ministry's cooperation with the King Hussein Cancer Centre in this respect, as well as starting training health and medical staff.

For her part, Head of Hemtna Association Dr. Fadia Samara stressed the importance of partnership and collective work by all sectors and institutions in the national effort to combat cancer and achieve a more efficient, fair and safe Jordanian system for all cancer patients.

Zain Jordan said that sponsoring the session on its creativity platform comes as a continuation of its pivotal role in supporting the Jordanian health sector within its social responsibility, noting cooperation with "Hemetna Initiative" to intensify efforts in the fight against cancer through supporting multiple projects, including the establishment of a specialized treatment isolation ward at the King Hussein Medical Centre, the rehabilitation of the oncology department at Al-Bashir Hospital and the rehabilitation project of the Princess Basma Comprehensive Health Centre in Ras Al-Ain.

It said Zain is also a key supporter and donor to the King Hussein Cancer Foundation and Centre.
