JFDA gives Pfizer's antiviral drug Paxlovid emergency use authorization

Ammon News - The Jordan Food and Drug Administration (JFDA) said on Thursday it had approved Pfizer's anti-COVID-19 pill Paxlovid for emergency use in adults aged 18 and older.

In a statement, JFDA Director-General Nizar Mhiedat explained that the emergency use authorization was granted "after the drug's technical files were studied and evaluated by the administration's specialized technical committees and all the necessary requirements and standards were met, and that the drug was proven to be safe and effective."

Copackaged as nirmatrelvir 150mg and ritonavir 100mg tablets, the drug is only prescribed for the treatment of mild and moderate cases of Covid-19 in adults over 18 years of age. According to the manufacturer, Paxlovid is not intended for use by pregnant women or lactating mothers.
