Covid cases surge, positivity rate at 28.71%

Ammon News - The Ministry of Health registered 18 coronavirus deaths and 17,781 cases on Tuesday, raising the death toll from the pandemic to 13,235 and the total number of infections to 1,243,090.

The ministry said in its daily media brief that the positivity rate of 61,930 PCR tests collected across the Kingdom today was 28.71 per cent.

It said that the number of currently active Covid-19 cases stood at 95,314, with 249 admitted to hospitals today that raised hospitalizations to 975. Some 152 cases have left hospitals, it added.

On hospital capacity countrywide, the ministry said that the occupancy rate of isolation beds in the northern region was 17%, intensive care beds 29% and respirators 7%.

In the central region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds was 30%, intensive care wards 42% and respirators 18%, it said.

In the southern region, the occupancy rate of isolation beds was 12%, intensive care 14% and respirators 12%, according to the figures.

Some 6,951 virus cases have recovered, bringing the total number of expected recoveries after the 14-day isolation period to 1,134,541, according to the daily figures.

On vaccinations, the ministry said that 4,588,865 people have taken the first dose of Covid vaccines and the number of those who were double-jabbed climbed to 4,234,704.
