Ammon News - The Jordanian government on Tuesday signed with the International Fund for Agricultural Development (IFAD) a financing agreement under which the Dutch government, through IFAD, funds Jordan with an additional €4.13 million for the Rural Economic Growth and Employment Project.

According to a statement, the agreement, implemented by the Jordan Enterprise Development Corporation (JEDCO), aims to increase the use of modern technology in agriculture, irrigation and water harvesting, in addition to raising the quality and quantity of crops in response to climate change.

Women, men and young farmers can benefit from the grant, which will be channeled into projects across the Kingdom to harvest rainwater, decrease water loss and leverage efficient irrigation systems.

The agreement was signed by the Minister of Planning and International Cooperation Nasser Shraideh and IFAD's Regional Director of the Near East, North Africa and Europe Division Dina Saleh.

Shraideh lauded the Dutch government's grant and contribution to the project, praising the "strong relations" between the Jordanian government and the fund. He also lauded the prominent role played by the IFAD in backing Jordan's development in recent years, noting it had a positive impact on the agriculture sector and rural development as well as on financing top priority development projects.
