Ammon News - Land Transport Regulatory Commission Director General Tariq Habashneh said Tuesday that the government is weighing up incentives and privileges to land transport to raise the level of services and promote investment in the sector.

Habashneh told a session, held by the Amman Chamber of Commerce with owners of land transport companies to discuss challenges to the sector, that the regulatory body is working on a strategic plan to streamline land transport in partnership with transport companies' owners that "will see the light soon."

Habashneh stressed that more attention and support should be given to raise the quality of land transport service and take down barriers, including the issues of insurance, type and number of trips, incentives and privileges.

Calling land transport the nerve centre of a strong economy and the key to the continuation of supply chains, Deputy head of the Amman Chamber of Trade and chairman of the Jordanian Logistics Association, Nabil Khatib, called for the validation of the multimodal transport law, which was introduced in 2018.

He also urged retracting decisions issued in 2012 on the number of trips for land transport companies and limiting the truck load to only one container, noting a shortage of workers in the goods transport business that has existed since 2014.
